Referral criteria colorectal carcinoma

Clients can schedule an appointment at our Center themselves if blood was found in their stool during the population screening program. The NKI Center for Early Diagnostics focuses on personalized risk stratification for early diagnosis and follow-up examinations for colorectal cancer. General practitioners and specialists can refer individuals with an increased risk of colorectal cancer to us if there are:
Symptoms that are cause for alarm:
- Change in bowel habits
- Rectal bleeding
- Iron-deficiency anemia
- Weight loss
- Combination of the symptoms above
Familial predisposition:
- People aged 45 and older with one first-degree relative who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer before the age of 50. The age of referral can be lowered by 5 years if the colorectal cancer diagnosis in the first-degree relative occurred significantly earlier. For example, if the youngest first-degree relative was diagnosed at the age of 40, the recommendation is to refer from the age of 35 instead of the previously outlined 45 years.
- People aged 45 and older with two first-degree relatives (related to each other) who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer between the ages of 50 and 70.
- People aged 45 and older with one first-degree relative who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer between the ages of 50 and 70, and one second-degree relative (related to each other) diagnosed with colorectal cancer under the age of 70.
Referral to our Center is arranged via Zorgdomein, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek.
