NKI Center for Early Diagnostics

The Center for Early Diagnostics is part of the Netherlands Cancer Institute; a hospital and research institute specialized in cancer. We are a high-quality diagnostic center focused entirely on research and early diagnostics. This allows us to provide people at increased risk of cancer, as well as those showing signs and symptoms suggestive of cancer, with certainty as quickly as possible.

Early Detection

By combining the latest methods with scientific research, we can quickly and reliably detect the presence of cancer. If we find nothing, we can provide the reassuring results as quickly as possible. People can choose to remain a client of the Center for Early Diagnostics for monitoring. Catching the presence of cancer early is vital, as early detection often increases the chance of recovery, and allows for potential treatments and interventions that are less severe, leading to a reduced risk of complications. Additionally, these treatments are less costly, which is beneficial for the health care field at large.

Target Audience and Diagnosis

The Center for Early Diagnostics currently provides services for people who may have breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, or skin cancer. We examine individuals who have an increased risk of developing these cancer types—such as people with hereditary predispositions—even in the absence of symptoms indicative of cancer. Other clients come to our center because they do experience symptoms, or because they were referred for follow-up examinations based on the results of population screening programs. Thanks to our short waiting times, efficient procedures, and state-of-the-art equipment, we can provide clarity quickly. After diagnosis, patients are referred to a specialized hospital for treatment.

Quality and Expertise

Our center also contributes to scientific research, advancing knowledge of early tumor detection within the Netherlands and abroad. This helps us improve the identification of high-risk individuals in the future to determine who should be screened early.
